Viral video success story : “Charlie Bit My Finger”

Charlie from the YouTube clip “Charlie Bit My Finger” is now 9 and his brother Harry is 11.

Their channel has passed 1 billion views and over 300,000 subscribers.

Charlie’s Dad posted the original video to show the boys’ family and godfather as the file was too big to e-mail. Once it passed millions and millions of views, he started their channel and reposted. They have now made large revenues from the video, merchandise and advertising.

To me, it seems that the video went viral because it is unbelievably cute, well timed, funny and authentic.

Dad says

“Even had I thought of trying to get my boys to do this I probably couldn’t have. Neither were coerced into any of this and neither were hurt (for very long anyway). This was just one of those moments when I had the video camera out because the boys were being fun and they provided something really very funny.”

It is extremely difficult to create a “viral video”, especially now with so many videos being uploaded every minute. However you can keep in mind that people like looking at cute pets and babies on YouTube. It is relaxing and entertaining. Be authentic and make people laugh or cry, then share and promote your video and you at least have a chance.
