It’s Wordless Wednesday! This week we wanted to support Senior Rescue Dogs! Puppies are undoubtably cute, but they can be a lot of work. Senior dogs are often already trained and love to cuddle.
First of all, a shout out for Speaking of Dogs Rescue , an all-breed rescue in Toronto with a focus on senior dogs. All dogs entering the rescue are fully vetted but many require medical attention. The dogs are lovingly cared for in foster homes until their forever families are found. Last year Speaking of Dogs rescue found forever homes for over 125 displaced dogs, many with special needs, and have taken many more into the program. Below is Sophie, one of the sweethearts they have helped from their website HERE Check out upcoming events and available dogs – see how you can help.
We wanted to spotlight the oldest dog member of our Talent Hounds Community, Otis, now 20 years young. This little dog has overcome a lot in his life.
According to owner Lee, Otis was dumped on the busy Long Island Expressway in New York five year and a half years ago because he was old, losing his hearing and vision and had no teeth. He was found and taken to a shelter but nobody wanted to adopt the senior who was estimated to be fifteen with a long list of problems. Otis was to be put to sleep, but help came just soon enough and he was adopted. Then, in a horrible turn of events, his new owner fell ill and could no longer care for him the way he needed to be taken care of. She asked Lee, her cousin and now proud mommy of Otis, to take him and that was when his life started all over again with a new title “Rabbi Otis”, and as spokesdog for animals and their rights. Now thats a Happy Tail!
Rabbi Otis now hosts Lee’s “Bark Mitzvahs”, and helps children and eldery people who are sick to laugh and smile and forget there troubles for a little while. With a large fan base on Facebook, Rabbi Otis loves to answer questions and spread awareness of animal rights issues. Watch Otis doing a Bark Mitzvah for Sophia the Pom on Nat Geo Wild HERE Definitely different, but definitely bringing joy to many.
