Healthy Mother’s Day Treats on Tasty Tuesday – Fruity Frosty Hearts.
Happy Tasty Tuesday. Today we wanted to celebrate the beautiful spring weather and share a Recipe for Healthy Mother’s Day Treats for you and your Dog.
Kilo the Pug loves fresh fruit and yoghurt. So do I. We also both like ice in summer. I am always looking for natural, healthy treats. Fruit is like nature’s candy, sweet and delicious.
Can Dogs Eat Fruit?
Kilo will eat just about anything. You may be wondering if fruits are good for you dog? Well some fruits are fine, but others are definitely not. With many fruits, the stems, seeds, cores, leaves, skins or pits may be toxic or difficult to digest.
Bananas, apples, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, melons, watermelons, pears, pineapples and oranges are some that are usually OK for most dogs. They should be washed, peeled and seeded as necessary. Grapes, raisins, avocados, peaches (pips) and certain others should be avoided.
Even with fruits that are safe for dogs, eat in moderation, as they often contain high amounts of sugar.
Cooking with Kilo
Cooking with Kilo is always fun. I think every household needs a Kilo Rescue Pug.
Fruity Frosty Hearts Ingredients – berries and melon
In the fridge, I had an extra slice of watermelon, a tub of Greek natural yoghurt and a punnet of raspberries.
Making the Mix
I simply put a few seeded, peeled chunks of watermelon, a handful of raspberries and 2 or 3 table spoons of yoghurt into a small bowl. Then I blended them by hand with a fork to make a pink mix with s few small pieces of fruit for texture. You could use a blender to make a smoothie, or smoother mix if you prefer.
I then took a plastic tray of cute heart moulds I found last week and filled each heart. I covered the tray with plastic wrap and left in the freezer for a few hours. I had enough left to stuff Kilo’s Kong and give him a small smoothie with his kibble for breakfast the next day.
Delicious Sweet Healthy Treats
Kilo and I went for a long walk in the ravine and came back hot, hungry and thirsty. We both had some water then enjoyed two Fruity Frosty Hearts each. The rest we are saving for Mother’s Day.
