Visiting Lakes with Dogs

Fun on Lake Muskoka with Dogs

The dog days of summer are here. What better way than to escape the heat of the city than to head to a beautiful cottage on a lake? I love water.

In Toronto, we are lucky enough to have a network of Lakes within a few hours. Last weekend, we headed north up the 400 highway to one of my favourites called Lake Muskoka. We stayed at a friend’s house on Acton Island which is connected to the mainland by a small one lane bridge. The weather was spectacular and there was no shortage of fun activities from early morning to sunset on the deck (with cocktails).

Sunset on Lake Muskoka

It was Buster the 6 month-old Portuguese Water Dog Puppy’s first trip to the cottage and first time doing lots of things. We got a lot of pleasure just watching him enjoy each day.

Buster and his pal Coach, a four-year-old Weimaraner loved cooling off in the water. Swimming can be great low impact exercise. Read our article on Swimming For Dogs Here

Buster wore a lifeguard vet or lifejacket to help him in the water. You can win one for your dog in our Kurgo Giveaway. ENTER NOW as ending today! Even good swimmers, human or animal,  can tire in the water – or need help staying afloat if injured.

Buster watched Coach for a few weeks, the finally plucked up the courage to dock dive himself and fetch his water toys.

Buster really loves going in the boat. He is a spotter water-skiing and on tours of the lake.

His friends love boats too.

Buster also tried tubing slowly. He was so keen to jump on, but not sure he loved it.

Check out more Vines from the weekend.

He went in a kayak with his Mom after practising on land.

He even went on an adventure on a small float plane.

Buster enjoyed exploring the bushes around the cottage (set in several acres). he raced around hiding toys and chasing chipmunks.

We all made sure we got lots of H2O to drink.

Then there was lots of relaxing between activities.

How will you spend your weekend? Any fun activities planned?

I love these pictures! Magic loves getting in the water, but scared himself the first time he went in over his head. I think the vest would be a great idea…we just don’t have much “water” ops around here.

Swimming and water sports are great for people and pets! They are much easier on the body as well. It sure looks like a lot of fun at the lake.

Looks like you had a fun day. Reminds me of the good times I had with my two “boys” playing in the water on hot days.

I love going to the lake. My corgis don’t like to swim though. I keep trying, but they just want to lay in the sun, which OK too. 🙂

Buster is gorgeous, and that’s so awesome that he’s getting to go on so many adventures already. Isn’t it amazing living by so many bodies of water? I don’t even have the guts to go tubing anymore, so kudos for that. Looks like it was a great time.

Beautiful lake! That looks like a wonderful place to spend the day. It reminds me of when I was younger and my grandpa had his boat docked out in Canada. The dogs look like they had a lot of fun.

Great pictures! Buster is really adorable and looks great with the life jacket. Living in Colorado we don’t have much opportunity to play in the water but it sure looks like fun!
