Hopefully, all those April showers will bring May flowers! As we head into late spring and early summer, dog-friendly events are starting to pop up everywhere. Crusoe the Celebrity Dachsund’s No Bite Is Right Tour

Crusoe will be paying a visit to his “second home” city of Toronto on the#NoBiteIsRight tour across Canada! Crusoe will be out in Jack Darling Park with a booth & tent setup to sign books, meet fans & take pics together, and share a few words about the important cause he’s representing on this tour for the No Bite is Right campaign; raising awareness for flea & tick prevention in pets.
Crusoe himself had a tick before, and after learning the hard way he’s now vowed to help others reduce their risk of being bitten by fleas or ticks – because all across Canada, the tick armies are moving north as the climate warms, and we furry creatures need to be prepared!Learn more about the tour & the cause with our behind the scenes with Crusoe HERE

KW Pet Expo

May 7, 2016 to May 8, 2016

Cardinal Conference & Events Solutions is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the first annual Pet Expo in the Kitchener-Waterloo area in support of the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society. The KW Pet Expo will feature approximately 50 exhibitors showcasing a variety of pet-related products and services for pet owners and enthusiasts.  There will also be a number of pet rescues teaching people about how they could help the rescued animals. Pets will be allowed at the show, provided they are on leashes, up-to-date on all their vaccines, and a pet waiver form has been filled out.

Don’t miss: A Waterloo Regional Police Canine Unit demonstration. The Canadian Kennel Club Canine Good Neighbour Program. The very popular WoofJocks Canine All Stars. A series of “Pet Talks” presentations. Hands On Exotics. A wiener dog race. A pet costume contest.

Petloss Support Group

If you have experienced the loss of your animal or are anticipating the loss of your animal, know that you are not alone in the grief that you are feeling. The purpose of this group is to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone’s grief matters. Participants will have an opportunity to express their loss and share memories of their companions. The group meets the first Saturday of each month.

Dogs 4 Youth 2016

Dogs 4 Youth will feature a massive indoor dog-centric marketplace with vendors from a wide variety of companies selling everything a dog could ever want or need, with a few things for you too. Custom dog leashes, collars, specialized doggie treats, a day at the spa, and so much more. No matter your dog’s size or shape, you’re sure to find something they’ll love almost as much as they love you!

All proceeds go to helping the FORT youth centre, an organization that provides free programming for youth ages 11-18 in Grimsby, Smithville, and Caistor. Dog Lovers Days will also be providing entertainment.

Victoria Day: Dog Lovers Days

Enjoy a free family-oriented Victoria Day programming at Lake Ontario Park this Victoria Day. Dog Lover Days and Canadian Canine Lure Course. Bring your dog to jump over tubes and run through hoops. $5 per dog. Dogs must be on leash, and please stoop and scoop after your canine.

10th Annual Barks by the Bay

This annual canine festival is held the last Saturday in May and showcases many unique vendors, breeds & breeders, canine accessories, training aids & techniques, pet hospitals, pet food stores and groomers. This year, test your family dog’s dock diving skills with Rideau River Dock Dogs or challenge their agility at the DogLovers Days Lure Course. Connect with your pet through with the help of Animal Communicator LAUREN BODE or take part in the Canine Good Neighbour program and receive a special certification from the Canadian Kennel Club. Bring the whole pack. Every dog has its day at Barks by the Bay!

Petapolooza

As part of Responsible Pet Ownership Month, the City of Pickering is hosting Petapolooza, Pickering’s Pet Tradeshow. Petapolooza brings together pet enthusiasts within our community and gives them an opportunity to meet industry professionals, rescue groups, and others in the pet industry. Food and drinks will also be available on site.

As in previous years, all proceeds from the tradeshow will go towards the development of a permanent Animal Shelter to enable us to continue to care and  house sick and injured animals for years to come.
  • This event is free to the public however we are asking for a voluntary donation of $2.
  • Dogs are welcome and must be on leash unless you are in the lower level of the leash free area.

Woofstock

Purina Harbourfront Walk for Dog Guides

Benefiting: Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides

The Purina Walk for Dog Guides is a national fundraising walk held in more than 200 communities across Canada. It raises funds to help train Dog Guides for Canadians with visual, hearing, medical or physical disabilities. To date the walk has raised more than $12 million! The 2015 walk raised just over $22,000, and we’d love to top that this year. Join us for the walk, followed by light refreshments, a silent auction and prize draw!

Burlington Humane Family Walk and Wag-a-thon

Spencer Smith Park, Burlington
Admission:$5 per person plus pledges collected
Benefiting: Burlington Humane Society

Select a 2 or 4km walking route. The afternoon also includes a vendor alley, wacky dog show judged by local celebrities, BBQ and silent auction.

    Thank you for mentioning National Purebred Dog Day! We value all dogs, whatever their ancestry, but on May 1, we celebrate the contributions of purebred dogs, some breeds at risk of vanishing in our lifetime. Again, thank you for noting the day!
