Fun in the Adirondacks with Fitbit

Fun in The Adirondacks with Fitbit

Happy 4th of July to all our American friends. I spent last weekend hiking, golfing and swimming in Keene NY in The Adirondacks with some of my closest friends. They have a beautiful cabin in the mountains quite near Lake Placid.

The weather and vistas were spectacular. The “pond” water was even warm enough for me.

Their gorgeous dog, Stanley the Border Terrier, loved the hiking and swimming.

My friends had recently got stylish slim new Fitbit Flexes and were very enthusiastic about counting their steps.

They have signed up for online tracking and group competitions with other family members.

Of course , it seems so much easier to get out and walk or swim when the sun is shining and you have great places to explore, but I also think that devices like Fitbit might motivate me.

Many people find it rewarding to set goals, track activity and calories, then share or compare. Joining an online forum like Petsmove.org or  the Fitbit online community can also help one lead a more active healthy life. You’re just steps away from better fitness.

I have decided to get my own Fitbit and to list them on the site. If you would like to purchase a Fitbit shop here:

Love the photos – reminds me of my home as I’m from upstate NY.

Great photos! I agree that setting goals and having a way to track them can make exercising more fun. I haven’t heard of FitBit before. I’ll go check it out.

Thanks Mark. I just bought one myself and am planning a big fitness (and hopefully weight loss) journey.

David Sedaris just wrote a funny piece in the New Yorker (this week or last week–I can’t remember) about using his FitBit–I am pretty sure you can find it on the New Yorker website! I don’t have a FitBit, but I do have a Garmin GPS watch that tracks the miles the pup and I walk each day. It’s great motivation to get us out the door knowing that we have to walk a certain amount of miles each day to meet our annual goal!

Thanks Beth- I’ll definitely look for that piece. My husband and daughter have NIKE watches for running and love mapping routes and keeping track of distances etc.Have a great weekend!
