Beagle Dog Breed

September 16, 2014 by Leave a Comment

Beagle

The Beagle is thought to have evolved from small foxhounds. It originated in Britain and was bred to hunt rabbits and hares.

The Beagle is the most popular of its classification with its lively and easy-going personality. A pack dog by nature, this cheerful, intelligent and loving dog thrives in families. Beagles tend to be singular minded, and therefore can be a challenge to train requiring a lot of patience. Beagles have a long history of being featured in portraits going back to Elizabethan times, and famously portrayed as Charlie Brown’s companion, Snoopy in the popular Peanuts comics. Often tricoloured, Beagles can appear in any hound colour though they are famous for their white tipped tails that stand out like white flags when on the trail.

Beagles are often used as detection dogs due to their amazing sense of smell. Beagles are short and muscular with soft round ears that flop towards their short muzzles. Their short sleek coats are easy to groom and maintain. The Beagle requires physical and mental stimulation, as they can become destructive if left on their own for too long.
