Adopt A Shelter Dog -Save A Life

Happy inspirational Monday! Rescue Dogs Rock!

Today we are inspired by BlogPaws’ “Adopt A Shelter Pet Month” which is in its final week.

Sadly, puppy mills still exist and millions of dogs still get surrendered to shelters and rescues each year. It’s estimated that 3 million are euthanized. Euthanasia is apparently the leading cause of death for pets in the US. We can all help.

Rescue and shelter dogs rock! We believe they deserve a second chance in a loving home. It’s wonderful to see so many bloggers in the community coming together to spread awareness about adopting, puppy mills and spay and neuter programs to help lower these numbers.

Why Adopting Rocks

When you adopt a dog from a local shelter or rescue organization, you help two dogs. First, the one you are adopting and second, the dog who can take its place with a foster family or in the shelter. Although you may not be able to save them all, you can definitely save the life of the dog/s you adopt.

Kilo the Pug- Who Rescued Who?

I started fostering Kilo the Pug from Homeward Bound Rescue. He is now a permanent family member. The joy he has added to my life is priceless and I’m so happy to have found him. As we prepare for Halloween, doing tricks,  trying on costumes and baking festive treats, I can’t help but think what life would be like without him. I have to say Dull. Every day he inspires, loves and entertains me. My daughter was laughing, asking why Kilo has more costumes than her, and why I was baking him special healthy low cal homemade treats. He is such a little character.

I have so much fun training him(most of the time) and making fun videos like our new StarPugs parody. Although I rescued him, I’m truly the lucky one. He is rather flawed, but so enthusiastic and cute.

If you are considering getting a dog or puppy, please:

  • Adopt, Don’t shop! Visit one of the rescues listed on our site,  Pet Finder.com or check your local Shelters and Humane Societies.
  • Help Stop Puppy Mills– never buy a puppy at a pet store or if you don’t know about the breeder. Spread the word.
  • Spay and neuter your pets and educate others to do the same.

Share your rescue story with us to get featured on Thankful Thursdays and help promote adoption and build awareness.
