More than one-third of Dogs may be Obese-National Pet Obesity Awareness Day

Today we are highlighting National Pet Obesity Awareness Day. According to the CDC, more than one-third of adults in the United States are obese. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.

National Pet Obesity Awareness Day- Fit Dog Mabel Seizes the moment and the disc

Veterinarians are noticing a corresponding increase in the prevalence of dog obesity according to The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention. The health conditions associated with dog obesity negatively impact the quality of life and longevity for our overweight canine companions and dramatically increase the cost of their veterinary care. We have seen estimates that up to 50% of dogs are overweight and that vet and extra food costs could be as high as $8 billion.

Seize the moment like Fit Dog Mabel – Get out and get active with your dog today! You both win.

Great message and tips for keeping our pets at a an ideal weight. One of my doggies gained a little when his activity had to be restricted for a short period. It was tough to resist the urge to use food to pacify him. We got the extra weight off him.
