Today we wanted to feature Toronto Animal Services and a very special Summer Camp we had the pleasure of visiting last week.  Pawsitively Pets Junior Dog Trainer Camp not only entertains and educates kids but it helps socialize and train Rescue Dogs at Toronto Animal Services so they become more adoptable. We call that a Win Win!!

This is Winnie – glad to say this winning cutie found her forever home last week. I would have taken her if she hadn’t!

“The camp experience is one that can be the most memorable moment in a child’s life.”

Pawsitively Pets Junior Dog Trainer Camp is a unique camp held at the Toronto Animals Services North Location where children 10-14 learn the key fundamentals of dog training. Campers work hands on each day with a dog and a professional dog trainer. Founder Jennifer Ego from K9 Rescue Me , has successfully fused her two passions in life: educating children and the welfare of animals.

Throughout the week the campers gets to train a rescue shelter dog in basic obedience, and see the transformation before their eyes.  It’s an amazing opportunity for campers to gain confidence, learn teamwork and make new friends all while providing a rescue dog lifetime skills to help them be adopted into a loving home.

Our friend Margaret Pender head trainer and founder of DogGone Right! teaches campers to train using her positive training techniques. Teaching the young campers how to communicate with their dog creates a bond between them and their 4-legged companions. The dogs learn obedience and good manners. The campers have a chance to learn how to effectively train using clicker training, games and positive rewards like treats, praise, pats, play and toys.

The camp is a great opportunity for all involved! Trainers get to pass on their knowledge and build a new generation of responsible pet owners. Campers have an amazing and rewarding week learning new valuable life skills and deserving shelter dogs get their chance to learn and  enjoy attention and affection!

The programme has been a great success! So far this summer 33 dogs that were admitted into the programme have now found their forever homes. That’s 33 happy tails campers and staff can be proud of.

Daisy is an adorable English Foxhound Beagle Cross with a big smile that shelter staff believe is five years old. This cutie is brand new to the Toronto Animal Services North location and she is looking for her forever home! Only request, Daisy isn’t a huge fan of cats and would prefer a home without a feline friend.

Update: Daisy was adopted.
