DOGTV is a 24/7 channel with programs scientifically developed for dogs to meet specific attributes of their sense of vision and hearing, and support their natural behavior patterns. It also has bonus content for pet parents. Out Talent Hounds documentary series was part of their line-up. Dogs and humans seemed to enjoy it. We have several friends working there.

The DOGTV channel is not carried by our TV providers yet in Canada. However Kilo and I were excited to learn that they have just added a tiered membership program to their free YouTube Channel so we can easily access content now. We love YouTube and have our own free channel youtube.com/talenthounds with lots of useful tips and entertaining videos.

“The behaviour of kennelled dogs is influenced by visual stimulation in the form of television programmes” 3 Queen’s University, UK

Programs have been been designed especially for dogs based on more than sixty scientific studies and many years of research. They are divided into 3 categories to meet a dog’s typical daily cycle and enrich their lives and environment. (See  Programs)

DOGTV Stimulation Programs

Programs with playful animated sequences, dogs, and other animals designed to prevent boredom and provide mental stimulation.

Just like a walk, DOGTV exposes your dog to new stimuli, but in the form of images and sound, not scents. This is how DOGTV provides enrichment for your dog.

Some dogs react to the visuals, especially other dogs or balls. Kilo is not one of them. He does react to barking or doorbell sounds occasionally, but he does not seem to recognize dogs on screens. Maybe it’s because he can not smell them and his puggy vision is not great. Even in real life, he is not interested in chasing tennis balls or discs but he loves chasing treats and toys or crackling a plastic water bottle.

DOGTV Relaxation Programs

Programs with calming scenes and soothing sounds keep your dog relaxed during the day. Kilo has regular bursts of energy for short walks and play but sleeps a lot during the day so probably enjoys the relaxation Programs.

Some dogs will lie down and feel calmed by the relaxing music.

DOGTV Exposure Programs

Programs edited to include limited exposure to sounds that help your dog get accustomed to things like car rides and door bells.  Can be especially good for puppies.

MYDOGTV

Hundreds of fun, educational and entertaining programs for pet parents like: The Dog Chef, Dogs A-Z, Things We Woof About, The Adoption Show and Meet The Breed.

Where Can I Subscribe?

The DOGTV channel is currently available in the United States on Comcast Xfinity, on Sling streaming television and DISH DOGTV. In Brazil the channel is available on SKY, Claro and Vivo.  It is also available in Mexico, Argentina, Portugal and South Korea.

When I looked on the site recently, I realised that the DOGTV streaming app is now available anywhere in the world on Vimeo, Roku, AppleTV, Amazon FireTV, Chromecast, iOS and Android devices.

DOGTV just upgraded their subscription software management to Vimeo OTT. You can view the new experience at https://watch.dogtv.com.
