Tasty Dog Treat Recipes, Photos and Videos

For Tongue Out Tuesday

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday! May you all get lots of Treats.

If you have been following our recent Onion Scare, you’ll know my rescue dog Kilo is a resourceful, greedy ninja Black Pug. He loves food. We made this funny video of Kilo licking his lips, dreaming about his favourite Tasty Treats. Anyone else hungry for “Turkey Wrapped Peanut Butter Cookies”?

It’s also Tasty Tuesday. If Kilo’s dream concoctions weren’t right for you, you could try these yummy dog-friendly recipes below.

Boiled Chicken and Carrot Tasty Dog Treats

With the hot weather, I wanted to give Kilo some simple healthy frozen and fresh treats. I also wanted to some food and liquid to add to his kibble. I had to avoid onions and garlic,  so I decided to cook my own.

At our local supermarket I bought:

Delicious fresh ingredients

  • 3 fresh raw organic chicken breasts (1 for me and 2 for Kilo)
  • fresh baby kale, baby spinach, baby carrots and a vegetable tray with a few pieces of broccoli and cauliflower.

Kilo's dinner in the pot

I put the chicken and a fist full of each of the veggies into a pot with 4 or 5 cups of water

I boiled on medium heat for approximately 30 minutes. I had to pop out so I left the pot to cool on the stove for an hour or two.

Remember to handle raw chicken carefully and wash hands and surfaces to avoid any food borne diseases.

Chicken and carrot treats

When I got back, I took one piece of chicken and a few baby carrots and chopped them up to use as treats. They are kept in the fridge in a plastic container and last a few days. Kilo LOVES them for training rewards. It makes a carrot go further than the raw ones we always share.

I then took a tray and poured a little of the natural chicken stock into each hole, then added a few pieces of chopped chicken, sliced carrot, and greens from the pot.

Tray of frozen treats

I put the tray in the freezer for 3-4 hours then pulled out delicious, healthy, grain free, low cal frozen chicken treats. Perfect for this heat and a greedy pug. Kilo tried one and gave it the big Tongue Up! He grabbed it and ran off to devour it very happily.

Delicious Chicken Meal

We still had lots left in the pot so I gave Kilo a really delicious healthy breakfast mixed with a tiny bit of his kibble this morning. He couldn’t stop licking the plate. He’ll get some for dinner too.

I am also going to experiment with cookies, pup cakes and other frozen treats. Look for those next week.

What a great idea, and they definitely look like a hit! I grew kale in my garden for the first time this year and I needed some ideas of what to do with it for the dogs.

I have kale coming up in my garden and now i know how to use it. In a few weeks I will have zucchini and I always seem to have enough for an army. Any ideas on how to use it for dogs will be much appreciated.
