American Bulldog
American Bulldogs were originally used as utilitarian workers with little pedigree employed by working class families in the American South. They were preserved from extinction and standardized through the efforts of two men, John D. Johnson and Allan Scott, who devoted themselves to this work after World War II.
American Bulldogs are much more active, agile and lanky than their English cousins. They require plenty of attention and regular cleaning of all their glorious wrinkles. They are also prone to health issues, which should be taken into consideration. The American Bulldog enjoys human companionship and usually gets along well with other pets. Proper socialization and appropriate training and exercise can make the American Bulldog a suitable family pet for households with children. Their flat coats are short and sleek, and easy to maintain and come in a range of colours: white, fawn, red, piebald and brindle. Bulldogs make both great companion and city dogs, and are quite loyal and humorous.
