Check out our list of 20 most popular poodle mixes, especially if you have allergies and are looking for a dog that does not shed too much. Maltipoos, Cockapoos, Yorkie Poos, Labradoodles and Golden Doodles all make the list.

What’s So Special About Poodles and Poodle Mixes?

Our list of amazing poodle mixes includes Labradoodles like Bocker, Maltipoos, Shipoos, and so many other wonderful mixed breeds, especially great for people with allergies looking for a clever, friendly dog.

Poodles are generally considered one of the smartest dog breeds. They are very trainable and excel in obedience. Their low to non-shedding coat makes a poodle a great choice for those with allergies. They come in 3 sizes – Standard, Miniature and Toy.

What many don’t realize, however, is how goofy and fun poodles can be.

Poodle mixes have become increasingly popular because of all their great qualities. They reportedly started mixing poodles with labs and golden retrievers for service dogs for people with allergies. When mixed with another dog breed, the results can be outstanding if the puppies end up with the best traits of each breed.

Here are an amazing group of 20 Designer Dog Poodle Mixes that we are sure you will love.

20 Most Popular Poodle Mixes.

Aussiedoodle or Aussiepoo

An Aussiedoodle is a mix between an Australian Shepherd (a herding breed) and a Poodle.  They can range in size and weight depending which size Australian Shepherd and which size Poodle is used for breeding (both breeds come in three sizes).  Their variety of colours and their soft, silky coat make them quite beautiful and unique.  Their eye shade is most commonly golden brown in colour but can also be dark brown, green, or blue.  Aussiedoodles are very intelligent dogs and can usually be easily trained. They seem to thrive in an environment where they are challenged.  They are generally very family oriented and make a fun family pet.  They have a playful, sweet, and social nature and they tend to be friendly with everyone. Aussiedoodles tend to have a lot of energy and need lost of stimulation (mental and physical) so best suited to an active family.

The Bernedoodle, also known as the Bernese Mountain Poo, is a combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. This hybrid blends the cleverness of the poodle with the placid loyalty of the Bernese.  They are most commonly described as happy, goofy, smart, charming, curious, friendly, social, enthusiastic, cuddly, and loving.  What’s more, the Bernedoodle is usually low- to non-shedding, and is a safe bet for most people with allergies. Bernedoodles tend to be quite similar to Goldendoodles in nature and can make great family dogs.

A Bih Poo (also known as Poochon, Bichpoo, Bichon Poodle) is a mix between a Bichon Frise, and toy or miniature Poodle.  On the smaller side, they weigh anywhere from 6 – 18 pounds.  They are another of the poodle mixes that do well for people with allergies. They are highly intelligent, affectionate and loyal, easily trained and love to learn new tricks.  Though small in size, they make great watch dogs with their alert bark.  They are quite playful, but not overly energetic, and require only moderate exercise. They can adjust to all types of living and are suitable for the apartment dweller as well as a family.  Their sweet, and friendly temperament allows them to get on well with children and other pets.  A true cuddly family pet.

Bordoodle

Also known as the Borderdoodle, Borderpoo, Borpoo and Border Poodle, the Bordoodle is a mix between a Border Collie and a Poodle. They are usually a friendly, athletic, intelligent, and protective dog. They are very trainable and fun for families but require lots of exercise and stimulation. Cockapoo

A mix between a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle, this mix is very outgoing and people oriented and make fantastic family dogs.  They are wonderful with children and are very affectionate to their family members.  They can be quite energetic which can be inherited from the poodle, and they will thrive with regular exercise such as a daily walk, or a run in the back yard.

Cockapoos like Mercy the Rescue Trick Dog are very easy to train due to their intelligence and inquisitive nature.  The coat of the Cockapoo will vary from dog to dog since they may inherit more or less of each of the coats from either the Spaniel or the Poodle.  A great benefit of the Cockapoo is that it is usually low to non-shedding allowing its owners to enjoy the plushness of the attractive, long coat without the clean-up of the hair.

Doxiepoo

The Goldendoodle is a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle.  They can come in different sizes depending upon which size Poodle is used in the breeding process.  This is a mix of 2 breeds that totally adore their people. They are highly sociable and loyal dogs that require lots of love and affection.  They delight at being the center of attention, and thrive when they get it!  They are exceptionally intelligent and quite easily trained.  Their intelligence will often entertain you as they figure out ways to get your attention like stealing household items just to make you chase them.  They have a wonderfully well-balanced temperament that makes them perfect for families with children.   A fantastic family dog.  They fare well with even the smallest of children, seeming to understand they should be extra gentle and careful around them.  Spencer is a  GoldenDoodle Rescue success story we featured in our Rescues Rock series

Havapoo

They are usually very intelligent and eager to please which makes them very trainable.  They need quite a lot of exercise. They often love water and most are natural swimmers and retrievers.

Maltipoo

Maya the maltipoo ready for action
Maya the Maltipoo

Maltipoos are a popular cross between a Maltese and Miniature Poodle. True to their parent breeds, Maltipoos are affectionate and gentle. They can make super companions for empty-nesters and excellent therapy dogs. A well-bred, well-raised Maltipoo should be friendly, people oriented, and easy to train — and just a little bit of a mischief-maker and comedian. This crossbreed is the perfect dog for first-time dog owners or for those living in small spaces with little or no yards, such as an apartment or a condo.  Maya is Kilo the Pug’s only friend and the cutest sweetest lap dog. She is quite energetic and loves chasing balls.

Herman in the Hood is an adorable celebrity on Instagram.

Peekapoo

This cross between a Pekingese and Poodle makes a great little lap dog.

@lukethepeekapoo

Pomapoo

I think I would love a Pomapoo which is a cross between the Pomeranian and Poodle breeds. Not only do they look adorable but they should be so smart and trainable.

Schnoodle

Jynx the happy schnoodle
Jynx the Schnoodle

The Schnoodle, a cross between a Schnauzer and Poodle is very loyal to his family, affectionate and easy to train but that Schnauzer stubborn streak can rear its head. They are often extremely intelligent, friendly, fun loving, with plenty of personality. They should be good with children and get along fine with other animals. They can be great watchdogs because they will let you know when someone is near, but they are usually non-aggressive.  This great companion dog excels in obedience, agility, Flyball and makes an excellent therapy dog, but they are first and foremost a loyal and loving companion!

Shepapoo

Yorkie Poo

Girl with Toy Yorkie Poo

A YorkiePoo is a mix between a Yorkshire Terrier and a toy or miniature Poodle. These tiny poodle mixes usually get along quite well with other dogs, do well with children although because of their smaller size, they may fare better with older children. They do make a great family pet.  Small in size and requiring only moderate exercise they also do well in condos or apartments.  Although they are small in stature they have been described as being good watch dogs.  They are very intelligent, at times stubborn, and can be slightly difficult to housebreak.  However, with proper training and patience they eventually learn exactly what is expected of.  With their sweet temperament, photogenic look and portability, they are quickly becoming one of the more popular designer dogs of today.
